GAME 1: Bethany 7, Ohio Wesleyan 3

A four-run fourth inning and a nine-strikeout performance by junior pitcher Cassie Weiss (Avella, Pa./McGuffey) propelled the Bison to a 7-3 win over Ohio Wesleyan Wednesday morning.

Bethany got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a RBI-single by sophomore Francesca Capaldi (Steubenville, Ohio/Catholic Central) and a sacrifice fly by freshman Kayla Dinsmore (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) to take a 2-0 lead.

Ohio Wesleyan responded with two runs in the second inning and took the lead with a run-scoring double in the fourth that gave the Battling Bishops a 3-2 advantage.

The Green & White rallied in the bottom of the fourth inning to score four runs and take a 6-3 lead. With runners on first and second base, junior Jazz Fuqua (Washington, Pa./Trinity) drove in both with a two-RBI double and scored on a fielding error later in the inning. Bethany added another run when junior Aubrey Baehr (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) smacked a two-out double to the left-center field gap that scored freshman Erica Amoroso (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) from second base.

Baehr gave the Bison another insurance run in the sixth inning when she hit a solo home run that extended the Bethany lead to 7-3. Weiss followed up by striking out the side in the top of the seventh to clinch the victory.

Weiss tossed a complete-game, while holding Ohio Wesleyan to three runs (two earned) on five hits with nine strikeouts.

Baehr finished the game with a home run, double, two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Bison. Fuqua also finished with two RBI, while Capaldi, Dinsmore and sophomore Sammie Weiss (Avella, Pa./McGuffey) also were credited with a RBI in the win.
