Bison close out Florida trip by taking one of two

CLERMONT, Fla. (March 17) – The Bethany College softball team concluded its time in the Sunshine State with a split, defeating Marywood 10-1 (five innings), before dropping a 5-3 game to Millikin.

The Bison finished the week 4-8 overall and head back to West Virginia to host Marietta on Wednesday, March 22 for their home opener at 3:30 p.m.

The Bison collected a 10-1 win in five innings over Marywood to open play on Friday in Florida.

The Bison scored four in the first inning and batted through the lineup in a six-run second inning to earn the victory.

Freshman Erica Amoroso (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) and freshman Kayla Dinsmore (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) each had three hits to lead the team.

Junior pitcher Cassie Weiss (Avella, Pa./McGuffey) earned the win for the Bison after holding the Pacers scoreless over three innings with six strikeouts and one hit allowed.

GAME 2: Millikin 5, Bethany 3

The Bison fell just short in their 5-3 loss to Millikin in the second game of the day.

Millikin broke a scoreless game in the third inning with a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead, but the Bison answered back. Senior Sarah Coss (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara) drove in one run with a RBI-ground out and an error by the Millikin center fielder allowed the game-tying run to score on a ball hit by Dinsmore.

Millikin added runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 5-2 lead into the seventh inning, where Bethany loaded the bases with two outs. Junior Aubrey Baehr (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) delivered an RBI-single to drive in one run, but the Bison were unable to push across anyone else.

Cassie Weiss was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits with two strikeouts over 6.0 innings in the circle.

Baehr and Amoroso each chipped in two base hits in the game to lead the Bison at the plate.
