Volleyball: Bethany Sweeps Chatham and W&J in PAC Play

Bethany, W.Va – The Bethany Volleyball team opened up PAC play with a clean sweep inside Hummel Field House Saturday afternoon in a tri-match against the Chatham Cougars and Washington & Jefferson Presidents.

THE HIGHLIGHTS – MATCH ONE (W&J)

  • Bethany and W&J battled in set one with the Bison coming out on top 25-20
  • Both teams continued to battle in set two with the Bison and Presidents going back and forth until the Bison began to pull away and held the Presidents to just 14 points
  • The Bison jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third set and ran away with the match holding W&J to 16 points

BY THE NUMBERS – MATCH ONE

  • 14 – Jess Moore led the Bison with 14 kills and two aces
  • 26 – Alaina Torres assisted the Bison 26 times
  • 8 – Bethany had eight blocks led by sophomore Emma Marthins (4 blocks, 3 solo)

THE HIGHLIGHTS – MATCH TWO (CHATHAM)

  • Both teams went back and forth in the beginnings of set one, but the Bison gained full control over the Cougars and took set one 25-12
  • Bethany was in full control over Chatham, holding the Cougars to under 15 points in all three sets

BY THE NUMBERS – MATCH TWO

  • 11 – The Bison had 11 blocks; Emma Marthins led the Bison block party with five blocks (four solo)
  • 7&6 – Freshman Duo Asia Crim (7) and Destiny Goodnight (6) led the Bison the aces category

WHAT'S NEXT?  

Bethany returns to the court on Thursday, September 16 when they face Pitt-Greensburg in a non-conference match at 7 pm.
