Baseball to Play Green-White World Series

On Monday October 12th, the Bethany College Baseball Team had their fall 2020 Green vs White World Series draft at Bethany Park.  The two teams were drafted by the 2021 senior class.  This World Series will be a best of five series.

Team White is led by seniors Kevin Roach, Ethan Young, and Kyle Goodwin and Team Green is led by seniors Christian Kampas and Seth Gordon.

Team White is led offensively by seniors Kyle Goodwin, Ethan Young, and as well as junior outfielder Michael Whiteherse.  At the end of the 2020 season, Goodwin was hitting .314 with two doubles, one triple, and seven runs batted in.  Young possessed a .333 batting average along with 10 runs batted in, half of which came on an inside the park grand slam against Penn State Berks at Pelican's Stadium in Myrtle Beach, SC.  Junior Michael Whiteherse was batting .286 with a team leading 11 stolen bases. 

Leading the charge on the mound for Team White are two returning sophomores Mark Lavezza and Zach Nolf as well as two incoming freshmen Zach Pressnell and Trey Mantle, who are expected to be large contributors for the Bison in the spring of 2021. Lavezza is the expected game one starter on Saturday.  He finished his freshman campaign with a record of 1-1 and a 4.91 ERA in 11 ininngs pitched.  Nolf ended his freshman season with a record of 1-0 and a 2.19 ERA in 12.1 innings pitched.  Freshman pitchers Mantle and Pressnell are expected to have an immediate impact on the Bison pitching staff in 2021.  When asked about a few of his younger pitchers, Coach Thomas said "Both Trey and Zach have the ability to be solid guys out of the bullpen, but also could start games if needed.  I'm excited to see what they can do for us this spring."

Team Green is led offensively by senior Seth Gordon, junior Kevin Pollock, and sophomore Colton Stoneman.  Gordon had a .436 batting average at the end of the 2020 season and affter 13 games, Gordon was leading the team in slugging percentage (.640), home runs (3), and runs batted in (13).  Outfielder Kevin Pollock held an average .333 with two doubles, a triple, and 5 runs batted in, while infielder Colton Stoneman held an average of .357 with one double, and 7 runs batted in.  Freshmen outfielder/pitcher Nick Roell is expected to play an important role during the series as well as the 2021 season not only as a position player, but also as a pitcher. Coach Thomas said of Roell "Nick as shown this fall that he is a legitimate two-way player.  He has thrown quality innings this fall along with quality at bats.  I am looking forward to what he will bring to the table for us in the spring."  Also on the pitching staff for team green are Sophomores Alec Berg and Quest Wilson alongside freshmen Max Petty, Hunter Lipps, and Logan Mayhle.
