Bison Men's Tennis Rolls Over Thomas More

April 10 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College men's tennis team finished off a successful weekend at home, taking down Thomas More College, 8-1, for their second-consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference victory. With the win, the Green & White have surpassed their win total from the 2015 season.

Bethany took a commanding lead coming out of doubles action as the Bison tallied all three of the possible points to take a 3-0 advantage.

Drake Berlin (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington) and Rhone Thrash (Parkersburg, W. Va./Parkersburg) took down Sam Lewis and Sergio Pascual, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles. The win for the pair marked their seventh of the season, improving their record to 7-1 on the year.

Marcus Hooks (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) and Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) improved their record to 2-2 as a duo, defeating Hannes Snorrason and Brandon Lorentz by an 8-3 tally at No. 3 doubles. At No. 2, Kyle Booker (Forest Park, Ga./Forest Park) and Chris Ray (Henrico, Va./Mills E. Godwin) captured an 8-3 victory, defeating Jalen Clark and Christian Gil to move to 6-2.

In singles play, the Bison tallied five more wins to round out the decision at 8-1, securing their second-consecutive conference victory.

Thrash moved to 6-2 on the season, picking up a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles over Gil. Ray, meanwhile, improved to 5-2, earning a win at No. 5 singles without dropping a set. He defeated Snorrason 6-0, 6-0 for his second-straight win.

Like Thrash, Hooks also improved his individual record to 6-2 on the young season, defeating Clark 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4. Waters took down Lorentz (6-1, 6-0) at No. 6, while Berlin moved his singles mark to a team-best 7-1, with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Lewis at No. 2.

The victory for the Bison improved their season mark to 6-2 through their first eight games, matching the program's high-water mark over the last 15 seasons. Additionally, the Green & White's 2-1 start in conference play is the best by the Bison since the turn of the century.

Bethany will return to the court on Monday, April 11 when they welcome another PAC opponent to the Mary Ewing Tennis Center. The match with Thiel College is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
