Bethany topples Geneva, 6-3

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (March 29) - The Bethany College men's tennis team took the top-four positions in singles competition to complete a 6-3 win over Geneva in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup Wednesday night at Blackhawk High School.

The win improves the Bison to 2-2 this season, 1-0 in the PAC. Meanwhile, the Golden Tornadoes fall to 1-6 overall, 0-1 in league play.

The Bison opened the match by winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles play. The team of sophomores Drake Berlin (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington) and Rhone Thrash (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) teamed up to take the top-doubles spot 8-4. Berlin went on to win No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-0), while Thrash claimed No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-0).

Junior Chris Ray (Henrico, Va./Mills E. Godwin) and senior Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) took No. 2 doubles 8-3 to score the Bison a second win in doubles competition. Ray and Waters each carried their success into singles play. Ray won a hard fought three-set match at No. 3 singles (6-2, 4-6, 10-5), while Waters claimed No. 4 singles in straight sets (6-1, 6-3).

The Bison are back on the court on Tuesday, April 4 when they take on Franciscan in a non-conference match in Bethany. The match start-time in TBD.
