Bison Men’s Tennis Falls Short at Grove City

April 6 – GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Bethany College men's tennis team was defeated by Grove City, 8-1, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Drake Berlin (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington) remained undefeated in No. 2 singles, moving to 6-0 on the year.

Berlin dropped the opening set, 7-5, before rallying to earn a 7-5 decision in set two and a 10-4 victory in the tiebreaker. The freshman is the only Bison to remain unbeaten in singles play after six matches.

In doubles play, Berlin and freshman Rhone Thrash (Parkersburg, W. Va./Parkersburg) fell for the first time, moving to 5-1 overall at No. 1 doubles. The duo found themselves in an 8-8 tie, forcing a seven-point tiebreak in which the Wolverines rallied to earn a 7-4 win.

Thrash also put up a fight at No. 1 singles as he was narrowly defeated in two sets, including a 7-5 defeat in the opening set.

Sophomore Chris Ray (Henrico, Va./Mills E. Godwin) was solid at No. 5 singles, nearly taking home the point for Bethany. Ray evened up the sets at one apiece after winning set two, 6-4, before falling 10-5 in tiebreaker action. Ray and senior Kyle Booker (Forest Park, Ga./Forest Park) also posted a solid performance in No. 2 doubles as they were ultimately defeated, 8-6.

The Bison will be back in action on Thursday, April 7 when they welcome Waynesburg University for a 4 p.m. start time.
