Bethany downs Thiel 8-1

BETHANY, W.Va. (Aprl 18) - The Bethany College men's tennis team defeated Thiel 8-1 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup on Tuesday.

With the win, Bethany improves to 4-6 overall and 3-3 in the PAC, while Thiel falls to 1-8 overall and 1-6 in the league.

The Bison started the match off by taking two-of-three doubles contests. Chris Ray (Henrico, Va./Mills E. Godwin) and Drake Berlin (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington) won their match 8-0 before Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) and Rhone Thrash (Parkersburg, W. Va./Parkersburg South) took down second doubles 8-1.

The Bison went on to clean sweep all six singles matches, highlighted by Thrash's 6-0, 6-0 wins in second singles. Callum Appleby (Maidstone, United Kingdom/Maidstone) won fifth singles in three sets. He fell in the first set 6-1 before winning the next two 6-0 and 10-8, respectively. Jay O'Donnell (Cardiff, Wales/Radyr Comprehensive) finished off singles action with wins of 6-1 and 6-3.

Next up, Bethany hosts Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday, April 19 in a match set to begin at 4 p.m.
