Women's Basketball falls to Washington & Jefferson

Bethany, W. Va – The Bethany College women's basketball team returned to Hummel Field House for a PAC contest against the Washington and Jefferson Presidents Saturday afternoon. The Bison fell to the Presidents, 83-61. The Green and White were led by Makayla Reynolds with 12 points.

GAME OVERVIEW

Kelsie Meintel began the Bison 7-0 run in the first quarter with a layup. The Green and White held onto the lead until the 1:35 mark of the first stanza. The Presidents' climbed back taking a 15-14 lead. The Bison were held scoreless since the under four minute mark of the quarter. Washington and Jefferson took an 18-14 lead going into the second quarter.

The Presidents used their pressure defense to continue their run in the second quarter building a double-digit lead to 24-14. The Bison gave up 16 straight points before getting a bucket off of a Courtney Walker layup to cut the lead to 24-16. After a pair of free throws from Abbey Dobbins, the Bison were within six with six minutes to go in the half.  The two teams continued to battle, exchanging buckets with their opponent. A Reynolds old fashion three-point play in the final seconds of the first half cut the Presidents' lead 35-25 going into the break.

Bethany struggled to keep Washington and Jefferson from scoring in the third quarter, as the Presidents outscored the Bison 27-16 in the third stanza. The Green and White were able to cut the deficit to 47-37 after a Reynolds layup, but were unable to get the big stops they needed on the defensive end.

In the final frame, Washington and Jefferson maintained a commanding lead. Bethany continued to battle scoring 20 points in the final stanza, but the deficit was too much to overcome giving the Presidents the victory.

Bethany shot a hot 91.3 percent from the charity stripe and went 40.9 percent from the field. The Green and White committed 23 turnovers, allowing the Presidents to outscore the Bison, 30-5 from points off turnovers.
