Women's Basketball Grinds Out Win in Overtime over Tomcats

Bethany, W.Va – The Bethany College women's basketball team returned to Hummel Field House for a PAC matchup Wednesday evening against the Thiel College Tomcats. The Bison grinded out a 63-57 overtime win over the Tomcats. Sophomore Kelsie Meintel led the Bison with 19 points. Allison Kuhn added 12 points and 10 rebounds and Courtney Walker contributed 10 points for the Green and White.

GAME OVERVIEW

The Bison jumped out to a 10-3 lead to start the game off. The Tomcats battled back to cut the Bison deficit, holding the Green and White to 13 points in the first stanza. Bethany led 13-9 at the end of one.

Bethany and Thiel went neck and neck throughout the second quarter, with the Bison hanging on to a narrow 24-21 lead going into the break.

The third quarter was all Thiel, with the Tomcats outscoring the Bison 22-16, taking a three point lead heading into the final quarter.

In the final stanza, both teams battled back and forth. The Bison knotted the game at 46-46 with five minutes to go in the game from an Allison Kuhn three. Moments later, Abbey Dobbins hit a jumper to regain the lead.

With under two minutes to go, Thiel took a 49-48 lead. Courtney Walker knocked in a free throw to knot the game up again. With eleven seconds on the clock, the Tomcats took a two point lead from a jumper, 51-49. After a Bethany timeout, Abbey Dobbins grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back in as time expired to take the game into overtime.

In overtime, Bethany took control of the game. Allison Kuhn gave the Bison the lead. The Green and White went on a quick 8-0 run and outscored the Tomcats, 12-6, to seal the win.
