Bison Fall to Yellow Jackets

Waynesburg, Pa – The Bethany College women's basketball team traveled to Waynesburg, Pa for the final PAC regular season game against the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets Saturday afternoon that took place inside Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.  The Bison fell to the Yellow Jackets 70-58, giving Waynesburg home court advantage for the first round of the PAC Tournament on Monday, February 24. The Green and White were led by sophomore Kelsie Meintel's double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

GAME OVERVIEW

It was a slow game to start, with each team scoring a minute and half into the game. Both teams battled back and forth throughout the first half. Bethany knotted the game a 6-6, with 6:10 to go in the first, off of six straight points from Kelsie Meintel. Waynesburg answered taking a four point lead. The Bison would once again tie the game at 10-10, but the Yellow Jackets closed out the quarter on a 7-3 run before Allison Kuhn made an offensive put back to bring the Bison within two at the end of the first stanza, 17-15.

The second quarter was a battle for both teams. Waynesburg built the lead up to eight with 5:31 to go in the quarter. The Bison climbed back and closed out the half tied at 30-30.

The second half was all Waynesburg outscoring the Bison 40-28. Heading into the fourth stanza, the Bison trailed 50-43. In the first four minutes of the final quarter, the Yellow Jackets extended the lead to 57-45. The Yellow Jackets hung onto the lead for the remainder of the game.

Waynesburg shot 40.3% from the field (25-62), while Bethany shot a cold 29.5% (18-61). The Bison out rebounded the Yellow Jackets, 45-44. Bethany capitalized from the free throw line, making 21-of-32 at the charity stripe.
