Women's Basketball Tops Geneva

Bethany, W. Va – The Bethany College women's basketball team hosted the Geneva Golden Tornadoes to open up the second half of PAC conference play Saturday afternoon, inside Hummel Field House. The Bison held off the Golden Tornadoes, winning 75-66. The Green and White had four in double figures. Sophomore Courtney Walker led the Bison with 16 points. Sophomore Kelsie Meintel and Junior Allison Kuhn each registered double-doubles while adding 14 points for the Green and White. Kuhn had a team high 11 rebounds while Meintel pulled in 10. Freshman Alexis Heap added 12 points for the Bison.

GAME OVERVIEW

The Bison and Golden Tornadoes battled back and forth in the first stanza. Alexis Heap opened the game for the Green and White with a layup. Moments later, Heap knotted the game at 4-4 with another laid in basket. Bethany and Geneva continued to answer each other's baskets, while exchanging the lead five times and knotting the game six. A Kelsie Meintel layup in the final seconds of the first, brought the Bison within two. Geneva led 23-21 at the end of one.

The second quarter, the Bison opened up with an Allison Kuhn three to regain the lead. Both teams scrapped. The Green and White outscored the Golden Tornadoes 11-8 in the second stanza to hold onto a narrow one point lead, 32-31.

A pair of Kelsie Meintel free throws pulled the Bison ahead three to open up the third quarter. Heap added to the Bison lead with an offensive put back. The Green and White continued to stretch the lead to nine after scoring the first eight points in the second half. A run by the Golden Tornadoes would cut the deficit. The Bison led 51-47 going into the final quarter.

Bethany took full control of the game in the final stanza, scoring the first 11 points of the quarter to take a 62-47 lead. Geneva battled back to pull within single digits, 69-63, with under three minutes to go in the quarter. However, the Bison were able to capitalize on the offensive end to hold off the Golden Tornadoes.
