Strong Fourth Quarter Lifts Bison over Cougars

Bethany, W.Va – The Bethany College women's basketball team hosted the Chatham University Cougars Saturday afternoon, inside Hummel Field House in front of an electric crowd. A strong fourth quarter propelled the Bison passed the Cougars, 62-55. Courtney Walker led the Green and White with 18 points. Kelsie Meintel added 16 points and a team high 16 rebounds. Allison Kuhn contributed 12 points for Bethany.

GAME OVERVIEW

Bethany opened up with an offensive rebound that led to a Courtney Walker three. The Bison and Cougars went neck and neck in the first stanza, with the Green and White trailing, 15-13 heading into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, the Bison battled to keep the game close, knotting the game twice. The Cougars took the lead after both times the Bison tied. The Cougars led by as many as six in the second quarter, heading into halftime, 32-26.

Throughout the second half, both teams battled back and forth. The Cougars led by as many as nine in the third quarter, while taking a 46-39 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Bison took full control of the fourth quarter, outscoring the Cougars 23-9. A pair of threes in the opening minutes of the quarter, brought the Green and White within two, 49-47 with 7:10 to go in the quarter. Haylie Glass nailed in a shot from behind the arc to knot the game at 50-50. A pair of Kelsie Meintel freebies from the charity stripe gave the Bison the lead for good with 5:01 to go in the game. Bethany battled and held onto the lead to take one from Chatham.
