Presidents Cruise in Victory over Bison

Washington, Pa. – The Bethany College women's basketball team traveled across the border to Washington, Pa for a PAC matchup against the Washington & Jefferson College Presidents. The Presidents used a 20 point fourth quarter to cruise by the Bison, 59-37. Sophomore Courtney Walker led the Green and White with 15 points. Kelsie Meintel had a team high 11 rebounds.

GAME OVERVIEW

Bethany led W&J, 4-0 to open the first quarter. It was a slow start for both teams, combining for just 17 points total in the first stanza. The Presidents closed out the first on an 11-2 run. The Bison trailed 11-6 going into the second.

The Green and White knotted the game at 11-11 after back-to-back baskets. Kelsie Meintel laid one in from an Allison Kuhn pass. The next possession, Allison Kuhn hit a shot from behind the arc. However, Washington & Jefferson took the lead right back after a layup. The Presidents stretched the lead to as many as 10 in the second. The Bison were able to pull within seven when Courtney Walker hit a three as time expired.

Courtney Walker started the second half with another three to cut the lead to four, but the Bison allowed an offensive rebound and layup to on the other end. After a pair of Walker free throws, Bethany trailed 33-27 with 3:12 to go in the quarter. Unfortunately for the Bison, the Presidents built the lead back up to 10 (39-29) to end the quarter.  

The Presidents picked up the scoring in the fourth to cruise to a victory, outscoring the Bison 20-8. Washington and Jefferson were able to capitalize on Bethany miscues, converting 21 points of off 21 Bison turnovers. The Green and White shot a cold 29.4% (12-of-44) while the Presidents shot 38.2% (21-55).
