Men's Basketball Battles in Overtime for First Victory of Season

Latrobe, Pa. – The Bethany College men's basketball adventured to Latrobe, Pa for a Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) match against the Saint Vincent Bearcats Saturday afternoon. The Bison battled for a 91-88 overtime win. The Green and White had six athletes in double-figures in the first Bison win of the season. Senior Dalton Hamrick led the Bison with 18 points. Freshman Julian McGee had a career high 17 points and team-high 7 rebounds.  

GAME OVERVIEW

Saint Vincent began the game earning the first 10 of 13 points. The Bison quickly bounced back and took the lead. Travis Zimmerman hit a three to bring the Bison within two, then Julian McGee hit back-to-back from downtown to give the Green and White a 17-16 lead with under ten minutes to go in the half. Bethany extended the lead with a jumper off the hands of McGee, but the Bearcats didn't back down, deadlocking the game at 20-20.

The Bearcats took a six point lead before another set of back-to-back threes, this time coming from Dalton Hamrick, knotted the game at 28-28. Dylan Furlong joined the three-point party adding a trey of his own to give the Bison the lead once again with 4:34 to go in the first half. Bethany and Saint Vincent battled back and forth before Bethany took a four point (41-37) leading heading into the intermission.

The Bison opened the second half with momentum taking a 12 point lead in the first four minutes of action. The Green and White held onto a comfortable lead for most of the second half, but would allow the Bearcats to claw their way back into the game, deadlocking the score at 78-78, the with under two minutes to go in the game.

Bethany saw the game quickly heading in the wrong direction as they entered their final possession of play down three, but as time expired Asa Klimchock fired in a shot from behind the arc, sending the game into overtime.

The extra quarter of play went back and forth right down to the wire. A pair of Brendan Riggs free throws sealed the Bison's first victory of the season.
