Smith Finishes Top 10 in St. Vincent Invitational

Latrobe, Pa. – The men's team traveled to Latrobe Country Club for the Saint Vincent Invitational. It was a very conference-heavy invitational with six teams from the Presidents Athletic Conference teeing off in a shotgun start. Those teams include Bethany, Waynesburg, Grove City, Geneva, Thiel, and the host Saint Vincent. Pitt-Bradford and Pitt-Greensburg also joined the contest.

The Bison entered a single team of five golfers. Jude Smith, Payton Hildebrand, Sam Phillips, Nash Hays, and Preston Lindsay all combined for a +75 round. Bethany finished ninth out of ten teams entered.

One of the biggest highlights of the day was when Hildebrand collected an eagle on hole six. The Bison found the bottom of the hole in only three strokes on a par five. He became one of only three golfers in the invite to pencil in an eagle.

Smith didn't find an eagle on the fairways, but he was fairly consistent on a tough course finishing in the top 10. He led the Bison shooting +10 at the end of the day. Smith settled in nicely after a few bogeys. He scored seven straight pars or better from holes 14-2. During that seven hole stretch, Smith snuck in a birdie on hole 17.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS – PAR 72

Bethany will get back on the greens this Friday, September 13th. They'll take a trip in the opposite direction to Oak Shadows Golf Club in Ohio. The men will compete in the Golden Eagles Invite held by Kent State Tuscarawas. The event will begin at 10:30 am.
