Men's tennis defeats Waynesburg, 6-3

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 22) – The Bison knocked off Waynesburg 6-3 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match Saturday morning.

The win improves the Bethany College men's tennis team to 6-7 overall and 4-4 in the PAC. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets fall to 5-13 overall, 2-6 in league play.

The Bison opened the match up with a pair of wins in doubles competition to take a 2-1 lead. Junior Chris Ray (Henrico, Va./Mills E. Godwin) and sophomore Drake Berlin (Washington Court House, Ohio/Washington) took No. 1 singles 8-3, while the team of senior Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) and sophomore Rhone Thrash (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) claimed No. 2 doubles 8-6.

Bethany secured the win with four victories in singles play. Thrash and Berlin each won in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, while Waters and sophomore Jay O'Donnell (Cardiff, Wales/Radyr Comprehensive) claimed three-set wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles to clinch the win. Waters won 4-6, 6-0, 10-4 (tie-breaker) and O'Donnell picked up a 7-6, 6-7, 11-9 (tie-breaker) to help the Bison improve to 4-4 in the PAC this season.

The Bison will wrap-up the regular-season on Tuesday, March 25 when they take on Mount Aloysius in a make-up match, before the head to Erie, Pennsylvania on Friday, March 28 to open play in the PAC Championships at the Pennbriar Athletic Club.
