Bethany defeated at Division I Hampton, 15-5

HAMPTON, Va. (March 14) - The Bethany College men's lacrosse team was knocked off 15-5 at NCAA Division I Hampton Wednesday afternoon in a non-confernece match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hampton scored the game's first five goals, before an unassisted-goal by junior Will Gatling (Baltimore, Md./Northeastern) got the Bison on the scoreboard in the final two minutes of the first quarter.
- Bethany drew within three, 5-2, after freshman Nicholas Melita (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) found the back of the net with 11:13 left in the second quarter.
- Hampton answered with two goals to rebuild its lead to 7-2, before senior Bryan Uth (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville) took a pass from junior Brian Weakliem (Montgomery, N.J./Montgomery) and found nylon to send the Bison into halftime trailing 7-3.
- Hampton took control of the match with six-unanswered goals in the third quarter to establish a 13-3 lead.
- Bethany scored two more goals in the fourth quarter off the crosse's of Melita and Uth, but did not inch any closer.
MATCH NOTES
- Bethany senior Sean Rhodes (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) made 18 saves on 33 shots on goal.
- Bethany won 12 of the 22 faceoffs, including a 10 for 18 showing from Uth.
- Freshman Christian Robertson (Ellicott City, Md./Mother of Divine Grace) led the defense with three caused turnovers.
