Bison drop match at Grove City, 19-3

GROVE CITY, Pa. (April 21) - The Bethany College men's lacrosse team was defeated 19-3 by Grove City Saturday afternoon in a Ohio River Athletic Conference (ORLC) game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Grove City marched out to a 6-0 lead over the first seven minutes of the match to set the tone.
- The Bison got on the board when junior Will Gatling (Baltimore, Md./Northwestern) found the back of the net with 5:25 left in the opening period.
- The Wolverines notched three more markers, before a goal by freshman Nicholas Melita (Fredericksburg, Va. / Massaponax) made the score 9-2 with 8:20 to play in the first half.
- The two squads traded goals over the next minute. Grove City scored 52 seconds after the Melita goal, but senior Bryan Uth (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville) won the ensuing faceoff and passed to Gatling for his second goal of the game.
- Grove City clamped down defensively and kept the Bison off of the scoreboard for the final 37 minutes to claim the win in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
MATCH NOTES
- Bethany senior Sean Rhodes (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) made 14 saves on 31 shots on goal in the loss.
- The Wolverines out-shot Bethany 46-16 in the match.
- The Bison held their own in the face-off department, winning 18 of 25 draws. Uth finished the game 15 of 19 on faceoffs.

- Bethany closes out the season next week with a pair of home games.
- The Bison will host Muskingum for a non-conference match on Wednesday, April 25 at 5 p.m.
