Women’s Basketball downed by Kenyon 85-57

BETHANY, W.Va. (Nov. 22) - The Bethany Women's Basketball team fell to Kenyon 85-57 in their home opener on Tuesday.

With the loss, the Bison fall to 1-2 on the season, while the Ladies improve to 3-1 overall.

Senior guard Hayley Holenka (Shadyside, Ohio/Shadyside) fell just shy of a double-double with a season-high 21 points and eight rebounds. Junior forward Kelsea Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier), the reigning PAC Player of the Week, was also in double-digits with 11 points, while sophomore guard Ashley Duthie (Madison, Ohio/Madison) totaled sseven points, four rebounds, and three assists.

In the opening minutes, the Bison and Ladies traded baskets with Holenka three-pointer to pull within one at 10-9 in the first period. The visitors would pull away for 19-11 lead after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Kenyon raced out to a 15-point advantage with a 33-18 lead.

The Bison climbed back within eight before the break after a pair of Payge Farmer (Wellsburg, W.Va./Brooke) free throws trimmed the Kenyon lead to 36-27.

The Ladies used a strong post presence in the first half with 38 points in the paint to take the 42-29 advantage into the locker room.

Holenka started off the third quarter with a trey to pull back within 10 before Kenyon regained control for the third quarter, leading 65-44 into the final 10 minutes.

The visitors held their advantage for the entire fourth quarter to down the Bison in their home opener.

The Bison are back in action on Friday, November 26 when they head to the Marietta (Ohio) Tournament to faceoff with North Carolina Wesleyan in an opening round matchup at 8 p.m.
