Daugherty scores 25 in Bethany win over Saint Vincent, 65-46

LATROBE, Pa. (Jan. 5) - The Bethany women's basketball team went on the road and defeated Saint Vincent 65-46 on Thursday night in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup.

Bethany improves to 5-7 overall, 3-2 in the PAC, while Saint Vincent falls to 6-6 this season, 3-2 in league play.

Junior forward Kelsea Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier) led the way for Bethany with a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Hayley Holenka (Shadyside, Ohio/Shadyside) also tallied a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards, sophomore guard Sammie Weiss (Avella, Pa./McGuffey) scored 13 points, while junior forward Kelsi Settle (Sebring, Ohio/Sebring) matched a team-best with 11 rebounds.

Daugherty started the game with the hot hand, scoring all seven of Bethany's points in the early minutes to give the Bison a 7-4 lead. The Green & White followed by going on a 9-4 run to close out the opening quarter with the 16-8 lead.

Holenka hit two treys to open up the scoring in the second quarter, giving Bison a 26-12 lead with just under four minutes to play in the first half. Bethany built on its lead with a three pointer and two free throws by Weiss on consecutive possessions which helped the Bison move out to a 32-18 lead heading into the locker rooms.

The Bison held at least a 14-point advantage throughout the second half, as they continued their strong shooting to put away the Bearcats. 

As a team, the Bison shot 42.6 percent from the field and capitalized from the foul line, shooting 75 percent.

Next, the Bison host Thiel on Saturday, January 7 with tip set for 2 p.m.
