Bethany College Celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day; Kick Off 50th Anniversary of Title IX

Erikka Sansom, Director of Athletic Communications

Bethany, W.Va. – Bethany College Athletics is proud to celebrate the 36th annual celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) and lift up the incredible female athletes, coaches and staff within our athletic department and to inspire and empower future generations of athletes.

This year, Bethany will be supporting the WSF and its efforts with their own virtual campaign. You can follow the engagement on Bethany College Athletics Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and BethanyBison.com with inspiring quotes from our athletes, coaches and staff.

Bethany College Athletics will join the Women's Sports Foundation in kicking off the 50th Anniversary of Title IX.  Title IX is part of the Education Amendments of 1972 and was signed into law June 23. It states, "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."

The Women's Sports Foundation was founded in 1974 by former tennis star Billie Jean King in order to advance the lives of girls and women through physical activity. The foundation's mission is to both encourage and enable girls and women to reach their full potential in sports and life. The foundation educates, fundraises, researches, and advocates for numerous communities across the nation.
