Summer Q&A: Kate Botti

The Bethany College Athletic Department will be doing some Q&As with our student-athletes this summer. We would be highlighting the student-athletes that are spending their summers coaching or working on internships.

We begin with women's basketball junior-to-be Kate Botti. The forward is spending her days interning in the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office.

What are some of your tasks?

My tasks include observing court, managing and developing court files, and interacting with courtroom professionals.

What do you hope to learn from this internship? Goals for the internship?

With this internship, I hope to learn more about the procedures of preparing for the courtroom as well as courtroom conduct. My goals for the internship include gaining professional experience, understanding the system, and creating quality relationships for my future.

How did you get the internships?

I reached out to the office's administrative secretary with a letter of recommendation and help from one of our county judges that is a family friend. I had to go through an interview process that included fingerprints and an interview with a county detective.

How much basketball are you getting to play this summer?

I will be playing basketball anywhere from 2-4 times a week. Our team is playing in a summer league in Pittsburgh, but outside of that, I am getting on the court at least 2-3 other times a week. I am also doing some workouts with my old high school team.

What are your career goals, and how will this internship aid in achieving your goals?

I would like to be a criminal prosecuting attorney after completing my undergraduate at Bethany and going through law school. This internship is giving me a lot of great opportunities to experience the courtroom and work with professionals. It has been very helpful to see what each of the assistant district attorneys do each day. The internship is also helping me to become more familiar with important terminology.
