Football: Bison fall to Spartans on Homcoming

BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College football team hosted Case Western Reserve University on Don Ault Field at Bison Stadium for its homecoming game Saturday afternoon.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Bison capitalized on an interception by Dante Belardo. The Bison began their drive on the Spartans' 27-yard line and finished with an 8-yard touchdown run by Kayrus Sam. The Bison led 6-0 after the extra point was missed.
  • As time expired in the first quarter, the Spartans added a touchdown of their own, taking a 7-6 lead. Case Western would score another touchdown with 11:34 to go in the first half off a seven play, 73-yard drive. The Spartans led 14-6 at the half.
  • The Bison cut the deficit after Mile Goffe threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Trevon Dean.
  • Case Western would respond on their next drive, taking a 21-12 lead.
  • The Spartans would extend their lead in the fourth making the game out of reach for the Bison.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • (80) – The Bison ran 80 offensive plays compared to the Spartans' 64.
  • (312) – Bethany had 312 total yards of offense. They threw for 206 yards.

LEADERS

  • Miles Goffe totaled 122 yards passing (9-for-16) with one touchdown.
  • Kayrus Sam rushed for one touchdown.
  • Tre Dean led the Bison receiving team with four receptions for 60 yards including a 38-yard touchdown reception.
  • Defensively, freshman Jamar Hanson totaled 10 tackles (eight solo) with one tackle for loss and one pass breakup.

Bethany returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 7. in New Wilmington, Pa. against Westminster College for a 1 pm kickoff.
