Men's Basketball: Mounties tame Bison

Drew VonScio, Student Assistant for Athletic Communications

BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany's men's basketball team was looking for their first win of the season tonight with having some extra motivation after losing by point three days ago to Westminster. Growing paints haunted the Bison yet again as they fell to Mt. Aloysius 75-59 inside Hummel Fieldhouse.

Both sides scored inside the opening minute of the first half as a Quinn Hiles layup and free throw completed the three-point play and gave the Green and White an early lead. Freshman Troy Hixson gave the offense a spark in the early goings as he connected on three of his first four shots from outside the arc. Mt. Aloysius led by five just over halfway through the half, but the Bison stormed back and leveled the score with a Cole Dailey layup. The Mounties pulled ahead again and led by as many as 10 points with just over four minutes remaining in the frame. Bethany tried to muster some offense but could not get anything going as they still trailed by ten going into the break.

Looking to use their mojo from previous games of being a second-half team, Bethany was stunned when Mt. Aloysius came out firing in the second half as well trading points with the hosts. Three-pointers from Dailey and Hiles along with a three-point play from freshman phenom Tony Fox pulled the Bison within seven. Unfortunately, that moment was the closest the Green and White would see the score be for the remainder of the contest as the Mounties led by as many as 18 towards the end of the second half. Fox continued to contribute from the bench along with a handful of points from freshman Da'Shan Clark.

Three players were in double digits tonight with Dailey leading the Green and White with 15 points. Hiles added 14, and Hixson tacked on 11 of his own while also leading the team with six boards. Fox produced nine in relief for the hosts. Working the glass continued to be a

problem for Bethany as Mt. Aloysius led in that area 50-26 while scoring a whopping 40 points in the paint. The Bison are back in action on December 28th when they head to the Bluffton Tournament and take on Asbury. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
