Men's Basketball: Golden Tornadoes storm past Bison

BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany played its penultimate game of the 2022-23 season against Geneva this afternoon and honored their three seniors: Julian McGee, Brendan Riggs, and DJ White. The Geneva offense was too much for the Bison to handle as they fell by a score of 88-58.

The scoring started out rather slow as both teams missed several big chances early in the first half. Geneva posted the first four points before Chance Wright connected on a jumper. After a quick response from the Golden Tornadoes, Julian McGee got the Bison within a single point. Cole Dailey got himself on the board before a Chance Wells jumped tied the game up at nine-a-piece. The Green and White fell behind again, but Cody Davis came off the bench and scored a layup that pulled them within a point. Geneva went on a 9-3 run in a short amount of time with the lone Bison points coming from a Hixson three-pointer and saw the hosts trailing by seven. Davis sunk a jump shot that got Bethany within five, and Brendan Riggs got the Bison to trail by just two with a three of his own. The visitors went on another big run in the form of 8-2 with a McGee layup being the lone Bison points. A short time later, McGee got the Green and White back to within eight from a free throw which lit a fire in the Golden Tornadoes as they one-upped their previous run by posting 14 consecutive points. Da'Shan Clark and Davis posted jumpers late in the half, but Bethany trailed by 22 at the half.

The Green and White fared slightly better in the second half as Dailey's layup countered the one from Geneva 16 seconds prior. The freshman forward added two more in similar fashion on the next Bethany possession. Every time Bethany pushed, Geneva pulled even harder. A jump shot from Wells was quickly put to rest by a Golden Tornado free throw and three-pointer. The visitors quickly pulled ahead by a whopping 36 points as Bethany just tried to keep themselves remotely in the game. Tyler Kytta got involved in the scoring with a jump shot, before Cody

Davis connected from behind the arc. Hixson's layup came a short time later and made it a 35-point margin. Geneva wasn't done yet as they posted the next four before Dailey added two more layups. Kytta put up two more with a jumper, and McGee added his second three of the game. The Bison had some late life as they closed out the game on a 10-2 run encompassed by Wells and Jenkins draining triples, two free throws from Kytta, and a layup from Wells before the buzzer sounded, and the hosts fell 88-58.

Cole Dailey led Bethany with 10 points and seven rebounds while also adding three blocks. He now needs four blocks Wednesday night to break the single-season record at Bethany. McGee, Wells, and Davis each added 9 points. Bethany's final game will be Wednesday night at home against St. Vincent with a tip-off at 6 p.m.
