Men's Basketball: Golden Tornadoes knock off Bison

Drew VonScio, Student Assistant for Athletic Communications

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Fresh off of their first win of the season, Bethany looked to ride their momentum into a matchup with Geneva. Despite some flashes of success for the Green and White, they fell to the Golden Tornadoes, 70-52.

Freshman Cole Dailey scored the first two Bison points that tied the contest, and Chance Wells gave the Bison an early lead with a three-pointer. Dailey and Wells added the next seven for the Bison as the two paced the offense throughout the early goings of the first half. With under 11 minutes to go, Chance Wright was able to connect with a triple of his own. Much like the past handful of games, a defensive stalemate ensued with the Green and White ahead by four that was broken by two quick layups from the Golden Tornadoes. Troy Hixson got himself involved in the scoring with a three-pointer of his own with just over five minutes to play and gave the Bison another lead. Dailey and Wells continued their offensive prowess to knot the game up at 22. Geneva proceeded to go on a 7-0 run to close out the half and go into the locker room in front.

The Bison went on a rampage to start the second frame as they started it with an 11-0 run. Tony Fox got it started with a three-pointer followed by a Dailey layup and then Troy Hixson adding points in every style: a free throw, a three-pointer, and a layup. A short time later, Hixson would add yet two more layups as he continued to be a spark for the Green and White. Bethany led by five after a Dailey layup, but Geneva emphatically responded with an 8-0 run to pull ahead by three. With under 10 minutes to play, a Dailey field goal would level things up at 44-a-piece. The Golden Tornadoes would respond with another run, this time 9-0, and that was the dagger for the Bison as they would try to play catch up for the remainder of the game. The Green and White trailed by seven with just under seven to play, but they would not see the differential drop any lower as Geneva would cruise to victory.

Dailey led the Bison with 23 points and seven rebounds, followed by Hixson's 13-point affair as the only members of the visitors to surpass double digits. Bethany is back in action on Wednesday, January 11 at Washington & Jefferson College to begin the second half of conference play. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
