Men's Basketball: Hot-shooting Gators dominate Bison

Drew VonScio, Student Assistant for Athletic Communications

BETHANY, W.Va. – Returning home for the first time in over two weeks' time, the Bethany College men's basketball team hosted Allegheny College in PAC action. Allegheny went on a rampage in the first half and cruised to victory in the second, defeating the Bison 81-61.

Chance Wells got the Green and White on the board 34 seconds into the first half that would knot the game at two-a-piece. Allegheny would very quickly go on a 14-0 run to see themselves well in front less than five minutes into the first half. Cole Dailey would connect with a layup that finally put an end to a multi-minute scoring drought. Cody Davis would hit a three-pointer less than 30 seconds later, but the Gators would respond quickly to back ahead by 12. Allegheny would add five more points to extend their lead. Dailey would add a layup several minutes later that dropped the deficit down to 18. Wells got the Green and White in double-digits with a pair of free throws before Chance Wright hit a jumper. Wells would add a layup a short time after. The Gators would go on a 15-4 run to close out the half and take a 26-point advantage into the locker room.

Wells would put up the first points for either side in the second half with a layup followed by a Dailey layup in quick succession. Wright sunk a jumper before Allegheny and Bethany would trade free throws as Wells hit a pair and Davis added two more with the visitors adding their points in between. The scoring began to slow down drastically after a Wells three-pointer with the Gators offense running on cruise control. About two minutes later, Da'Shan Clark would get the points flowing again with a three-point play. Allegheny continued to pour it on offensively and led by 25 before a Dailey layup and Brendan Riggs hit nothing but net from outside the arc. Bethany would go on to muster only 10 points in the final seven minutes of play as the Green and White went deep into the bench and allowed everyone in uniform to get some minutes on their home court with the Gators claiming an 81-61 victory.

Dailey led the Bison with 16 points and seven rebounds, and Wells added 14 points and five rebounds as the dynamic duo continues to be the centerpieces of the offense. Bethany hits the road Saturday, Jan. 21 when they travel to Waynesburg for a 3 p.m. tipoff against the Yellow Jackets.
