Bison Lacrosse Lands Six on All-Ohio River Lacrosse Conference Teams

May 10 – GREENWOOD, Ind. – Following their second season in the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference, the Bison lacrosse team has placed six players on the All-ORLC teams, led by second-team selections Jake Holland (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) and Dominic Halstead (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake).

Four other members of the Green & White earned Honorable Mention All-ORLC status for the Bison, who finished the regular season with a pair of wins in conference play. The honorable-mention selections included juniors Steve Pluas (Mt. Pocono, Pa./Keystone) and Sean Rhodes (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) as well as sophomores Bryan Uth (Hedgesville, W. Va./Hedgesville) and Jacob Schiffer (Monkton, Md./Hereford).

Holland, the Bison's career record holder for points (139), earned his second-straight Second-Team All-ORLC honor after leading the Green & White in points scored during the 2016 season. Holland finished the year with 45 total points, which included 20 goals to go along with 25 assists.

Among ORLC leaders, Holland ranked second in the conference in assists while sitting eighth overall in total points. The junior totaled a point in 15 of the 16 games over the span of 2016, posting 11 multi-point performances throughout. His top game came against Defiance, where he finished with nine points (five goals, four assists).

Halstead earned his first ORLC honor, picking up second-team all-conference laurels after leading the team in ranking seventh in the conference in caused turnovers. The junior tallied a career-high 24 on the season, forcing at least two turnovers on nine separate occasions.

Along with his defensive prowess, Halstead ranked third on the team in ground balls, collecting a career-high 49. He also added the first two assists of his career, posting helpers in games against Otterbein and Westminster.

Pluas earned his first ORLC selection, tallying career highs in multiple defensive categories. The sophomore ranked first on the team and sixth in the conference in caused turnovers, forcing 25 on the year. He also tallied a career high, ranking second on the team in ground balls (55). Six times on the year, Pluas tallied at least five ground balls, including a season-high eight against Capital University.

Rhodes, who was competing in his first year with the Green & White, earned Honorable Mention All-ORLC status after starting in all 16 games. The junior ranked first in the conference in total saves (232), posting a save percentage of .505. He totaled 20+ saves on five different occasions, including a season-best 22 against conference champion, Transylvania University.

Uth continued his steady improvement during his sophomore campaign, earning his second-straight ORLC honor. The sophomore led the team and ranked third in the ORLC with 119 ground balls. The face-off specialist also improved on his numbers in the circle from a season ago, ranking third in the conference in wins (160) while tallying a career-high .567 face-off percentage. Six times on the year, Uth totaled at least 10 ground balls, including a season-best 15.

A breakout offensive year landed Schiffer an ORLC Honorable-Mention selection for the second-straight season. Schiffer ranked second on the team in total points (39), posting 22 goals and 17 assists, all of which were career highs.

Appearing and starting in 14 games on the season, Schiffer registered at least one point on 12 occasions, finishing with at least three, five times. His career-best performance came against Defiance College, when he posted 10 points, finishing with three goals and seven assists.

With the six total players named to the All-ORLC teams, the Bison have now totaled 13 honorees in their first two seasons as conference members.
