Bison Lacrosse Drops Road Decision to Saint Vincent

March 23 – LATROBE, Pa. – The Bethany College lacrosse team fell to Saint Vincent College, 14-4, in their first Ohio River Lacrosse Conference game of the season on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior Jake Holland (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) scored a season-high three goals for the Bison. Holland has now scored in five consecutive games and has recorded at least one point in every game this year.

Holland scored Bethany's first goal against the Bearcats, tying the contest at 1-1 with 13:28 remaining in the opening quarter.

Saint Vincent responded with a flurry of scores, taking a 6-1 lead over the Bison.

Sophomore Lamont Sweeney (Columbia, Md./Reservoir) picked up an assist with 6:22 left in the quarter, finding Holland for the goal and cutting into the Bearcat advantage.

The Bethany defense stepped up in the second frame but the offense struggled to find their rhythm. Saint Vincent held the Bison scoreless over the second and third periods as they built a double-digit advantage (13-2).

Bethany showed some fight in the final period, outscoring their opponents 2-1. Holland picked up his third goal of the game before sophomore Jacob Schiffer (Monkton, Md./Hereford) took a pass from sophomore Bryan Uth (Hedgesville, W. Va./Hedgesville) and found the back of the net.

The Green & White totaled 23 shots, led by Sweeney with eight. Holland finished with six shots for his trio of goals, while Schiffer amassed five shots.

Defensively, juniors Dominic Halstead (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) and Steve Pluas (Mt. Pocono, Pa./Keystone) recorded two caused turnovers, each.

Uth led the Bison with five ground balls and finished 10-of-15 in the faceoff circle.

Goaltender Sean Rhodes (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area Senior) totaled nine saves in net for the Bison before he was replaced by Kyle Hrehor (Whitney Point, N.Y./Whitney Point Senior). Hrehor collected six saves in 15 minutes of action between the pipes.

Bethany College lacrosse will return to action on Wednesday, March 30 when they welcome La Roche College to Bison Stadium at 5:00 p.m.
