Castro posts top-10 time at W&J Invitational

Sept. 30 - FINLEYVILLE, Pa. - Paced by a top-10 finish by sophomore Jordan Castro (Wahiawa, Hawaii/Leilehua) the Bethany College men's cross country team finished in sixth place at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational at Mingo Creek Park Friday evening.

The women's team only had four runners complete the course and did not place in the event. Freshman Kathrin Lehnert (Crailsheim, Germany/Lise-Meitner Gymnasium) led the women's squad with an 11th place finish at 20 minutes, four seconds.

Castro led the men's team with a 10th place finish at 29 minutes, 13 seconds on the eight kilometer course. Junior Donald Bierhals (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) clocked the second fastest time on the Bison squad in 16th place at 29 minutes, 56 seconds.

Sophomore Alexander Michalenko (Moon Township, Pa./OLSH) and junior Lucas Liriano (Frederick, Md./Sparrows Point) each posted top-50 finishes at 34th and 49th place, respectively. Michalenko finished at 31 minutes, 15 seconds, while Liriano posted a time of 32 minutes, 49 seconds.

Junior Ashley Worst (Apollo, Pa./Apollo-RIdge) also established a top-50 time in the women's five kilometer race with a time of 22 minutes, 54 seconds for 44th place.

The cross country team's have the week off until they head to Oberlin, Ohio for the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble on Sunday, October 15 at 10:30 a.m.
