Meintel Named PAC SAAC Athlete of the Month

Greenville, Pa. – Bethany College senior forward Kelsie Meintel was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Scholar-Athlete of the Month for February.

Each month, the SAAC's at PAC member institutions are asked to nominate one male and one female student-athlete for PAC SAAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month consideration based on academic and athletic accomplishments. Nominees must be varsity team members in their respective sport and in their junior or senior year. Scholar-Athlete of the Month nominees must also have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher and be actively involved within their campus communities.

Meintel appeared in 24 games (9 starts) this season and averaged 4.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, respectively. In nine February games, she averaged 6.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

Meintel had nine points and seven rebounds and went 4-of-8 from the field in No. 5 Bethany's 64-44 victory at No. 4 Chatham University in the quarterfinal round of the PAC Championship Tournament on February 22. Bethany advanced to the league's semifinal round for the first time since the 2011-12 season. Bethany finished its season 15-11 overall and 9-8 in PAC play. Its 15 victories were the most since 2011-12.

Meintel maintains a 4.00 cumulative GPA while pursuing a major in psychology (with an emphasis in sport psychology) and minor in criminal justice. She has been named to the PAC Academic Honor Roll three times and the College's President's List seven times. Meintel was also honored with the College's Presidential Scholarship.

On campus Meintel is an active member of the Psychology Club, the College's chapter of Psi Chi, the international honorary in psychology, and the Black Alliance. She has served as a student-athlete development intern and sports information work study in the College's Department of Athletics. Meintel has also served as a teaching assistant for abnormal psychology in the College's Department of Psychology and worked as a team leader during Bethany's annual Special Olympics Field Days. 

Meintel is a member of Bethany's Society for Distinguished Leaders, a junior and senior society established in 1948 to give recognition to students of high character who have demonstrated competent and unselfish leadership in student activities and have been constructive citizens of the College community. She was one of eight Bethany representatives invited to this year's Eastern Psychological Association's (EPA) annual meeting in New York, where she presented posters on the "Impact of Race and Gender on Children's Behavior Disorder Diagnoses" with Dr. Debra Hull, Dr. John Hull and Samaria Murry.
