Bison swimming compete at Franciscan; Stresky establishes mark in the 1,000 free

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Jan. 9) - The Bethany College swimming and diving teams competed against Franciscan, Pitt-Bradford and NCAA Division II Lock Haven Saturday afternoon on Franciscan's campus.
The women competed with all three schools, while the men went head-to-head with Pitt-Bradford.

Sophomore Cheyne Stresky (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) led the men's team and established a new school-record in the 1,000-yard freestyle. He touched the final wall in 10 minutes, 19.32 seconds, eclipsing the previous mark of 10 minutes, 20.06 seconds established by Cody Hussey last season. Stresky also added a victory in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of five minutes, 7.92 seconds.

For the women, senior Christine Pray (Canton, Mich./Canton) claimed victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 12 minutes, 16.49, and finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of five minutes, 51.69 seconds. Junior Alaina Geer (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of one minute, 8.75 seconds and took second in the 200-yard IM event, hitting the wall at two minutes, 34.57 seconds.

The Bison are back in the pool on Saturday, January 13 when they make the trip to Wheeling, West Virginia to compete against NCAA Division II schools Wheeling Jesuit and Fairmont State at 5 p.m.
