Strong Defense Prevails Bison over Tomcats

Bethany, W. Va. – The Bethany College football team hosted the Thiel College Tomcats in a PAC matchup Saturday afternoon. Prior to the contest, Bethany College football honored their 22 seniors and celebrated the 125th anniversary of Bethany College Football. Strong defense prevailed the Bison over the Tomcats, 37-7.

Game Overview

 It took the Bison nine minutes to get into the grove of things. Senior quarterback Carlin Bason punched in a three-yard run and a Sean Cole point after attempt gave the Green and White the early lead, 7-0. Moments later, defensive back Quron Eggleston picked off the Tomcat quarterback and took it to the house for a 52 yard interception return. Bethany led 14-0 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Bason punched in an eight yard run to extend the Bethany lead to 21-0. The Tomcats would get on the board with under five minutes left in the half.

The Bison scored again in the third quarter from a Dom Salinetro 19 yard touchdown pass to Hunter Klein, extending the Green and White lead to 28-7. In the fourth quarter, the Bison's defense continued to be a terror for the Tomcat offensive. Senior defensive back, Phil Taylor picked off the Tomcat quarterback and returned it 13 yards to extend the lead 35-7 with 10:51 to go in the game. With 5:44 minutes left in the game, the Bison defense rose again, this time getting points off of a blocked punt that went out of the back of the end zone that resulted in a safety.
