Bison Fall After Exciting First Half
Bethany College traveled to Muskingum University for a mid week matchup. The Bison took on the Muskies under the lights, trying to carry the offensive momentum from late last game.
While Bethany was able to get on the board, one goal wasn't enough to put away their opponent. The Muskies came out on top 2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-
The Bison moved the ball into the offensive zone quite quickly. Tavier Stewart was able to get a shot on goal in just 42 seconds. That goal was saved by the Muskie goalkeeper, but served as a good sign for what was a silent offense in the first three games of the season.
-
The most thrilling action happened surrounding the 30 minute mark of period one. Three scores took place at a rapid fire pace.
-
Matteo Pintus saved a shot that rebounded back to the Muskies. Pintus saved the soccer equivalent of a put-back.
-
After defending a breakaway that the Bison had, Muskingum was able to capitalize on a shot opportunity to score the first goal of the game.
-
The Bison answered back right away. Muskingum was trying to pass the ball back to their defenders to reset and gather some space to work up the field. Stewart cut off the defender who was intended to receive the pass, outran the other defender, and bolted 40 yards to create a one on one opportunity against the goalie. Stewart shot across into the lower left corner of the net to tie the game.
-
Muskingum had solid ball movement looking to retake the lead. They found an opportunity when the Bison were all crowding one half of their defensive third. The Muskies sent the ball to the opposite side where Pinus was on an island against two offensive players.
-
When the dust settled, the Muskies were up 2-1, a score they carried into halftime.
-
Out of the half Bethany quickly created two scoring opportunities and put shots on goal. However, they were not rewarded with a goal.
-
The Bison had all five of their corner kicks in the second half, but could not ring in a goal to tie the game. An action packed game resulted in a loss for the Green and White.
The Bison (0-6) will have one full week to recover before traveling to Grove City (3-1-1). The game will kickoff 4pm Wednesday, September 25.
