GROVE CITY, Pa – Bethany opened up President Athletic Conference soccer action taking on the Grove City Wolverines. The Bison got some opportunities to score scattered throughout the game, but couldn't get a goal on the board.
The physicality of the matchup was shown early, with 25 total fouls being called by the end of the game.
Bethany's offense looked to open up early, taking the kickoff straight down the field. The Bison missed left on their first attempt, but served as the aggressors for most of the first half. A pair of saves on tough shots prevented a Bison score.
Goalkeeper Matteo Pintus and the Bison defense prevented the Wolverines from scoring in the first half. Pintus put up three saves in the first 45, and a half dozen in the second half. Pintus nine saves was his second best game this season.
Grove City really opened up their offense in the second half. They finished the game with 11 shots on goal and nine corners. While Bethany stayed strong preventing any score from corner kicks, Grove City dominated the time of possession.
The Wolverines continued to put pressure in the Bison's defensive third. That pressure was converted to two Grove City goals in the second half.
Bethany was unable to relieve themselves on defense and flip the script, resulting in a 2-0 loss.
The Bison (0-7) will host Waynesburg (4-2) this Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
