Powell named CoSIDA Academic All-District

Oct. 27 – BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College senior setter Allie Powell (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) was named a 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District II honoree announced the organization Thursday afternoon.

Powell is now eligible for consideration for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which will be announced later this month.

The Indiana native leads the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and ranks 27th in Division III with 1,058 assists this season. A one-time PAC Player of the Week, Powell has guided an offense that ranks 10th in Division III with 1,528 kills and secured the No. 1 seed and hosting rights throughout the PAC Tournament.

This marks the second-straight year that Powell has been named a CoSIDA Academic All-District II selection. She currently maintains a 3.96 grade point average (GPA) while pursuing a degree in biology.

To qualify for the academic all-district honors, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative 3.30 GPA or higher and must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games and must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.

The Academic All-District teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.  This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
