Powell selected PAC SAAC Scholar Athlete of the Month for November

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Dec. 15) – Bethany College senior setter Allie Powell (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) was named a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Scholar Athlete of the Month announced the league office Thursday afternoon.

Powell, an All-PAC First Team selection with the volleyball team, led the league and finished 25th among all NCAA Division III counterparts in total assists (1,291) in 2016. She helped the Bison claim their first-ever PAC Championship Tournament title on November 5 and secure the league's automatic qualifying bid for the NCAA Division III Tournament. In Bethany's seven championship tournament sets, Powell totaled 92 assists, 19 digs and four service aces.

Powell was recognized as a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District II selection on Nov. 3, marking her second-straight CoSIDA Academic All-District honor.

A three-time PAC Academic Honor Roll award winner, Powell has earned Presidents' List distinction at Bethany four times. She is also serving as the president of Bethany's Beta Beta Beta honorary, a national society dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study, and plans to pursue a master's degree in anthropology after graduating from Bethany in the spring.

Powell, a biology major, carries a 3.96 GPA.

Case Western Reserve football player Nick Kwon was selected as the male scholar athlete of the month for the league.

Each month, the SAAC's at PAC member institutions are asked to nominate one male and one female student-athlete for PAC SAAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month consideration based on academic and athletic accomplishments. Nominees must be a varsity team member in their respective sport and in their junior or senior year. Scholar-Athlete of the Month nominees must have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher and be actively involved within their campus communities.
