Men's Lacrosse: Bethany Falls to William Peace in Season Opener
Cary, NC. – The Bethany College men's lacrosse team opened up the 2022 season against William Peace University Saturday afternoon.
THE BASICS
Final Score: William Peace 14, Bethany 8
Records: Bethany (0-1, 0-0); William Peace (1-0, 0-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bison and Pacers battled in the first period of play with the Pacers taking an early 1-0 lead. Tyler Britton hit the back of the net for the Bison's first goal of the season with 5:35 to go in the first. Britton's goal knotted the game at 1-1.
- The Pacers added two goals to take a 3-1 lead after one.
- Bethany scored the first three goals of the second period to take a 4-3 lead. The Bison goals game from Clay Yingling, Joshua Allegra and Aarin Burton.
- The game was deadlocked at 4-4 after William Peace found the back of the net.
- Burton regained the Bison lead but the Pacers scored three goals in the final five minutes, taking a 7-5 lead heading into half.
- In the second half of the game, William Peace maintained control, while outscoring the Bison 7-3 in the second half.
BISON TOP PERFORMERS
- Clay Yingling led the Bison with four goals and one assist on eight shots on goal. He scooped up four groundballs and caused one turnover.
- Aarin Burton added two goals.
- Josh Allegra led the team with two assists.
- Andrew Smith registered 10 saves.
STATS OF THE GAME
- Bison won 17 face-offs and took 32 shots.
