Men's Lacrosse: Bison Fall to Barons in Overtime Thriller

Bethany, W.Va. – The Bethany College men's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaking overtime thriller to Franciscan University on Wednesday evening.  

THE BASICS

Final Score: Franciscan 9, Bethany 8          

Records: Bethany (5-5, 0-3); Franciscan (4-5, 1-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • It was a back and forth affair for majority of the game between the Bison and Barons.
  • Franciscan took an early 2-0 lead, before Tyler Britton put the Bison on the board with under four minutes to go in the first period.
  • Clay Yingling knotted the game at 2-2 with 11:55 to go in the second period.
  • The Barons battled back and regained the lead 4-2, but the Bison rebounded and deadlocked the game at 4-4 with under four minutes to go in the second period.
  • The Bison and Barons were tied 5-5 at the half.
  • Bethany took a 6-5 lead after Britton scored but Franciscan re-claimed the lead, 7-6 heading into the final period.
  • Aarin Burton tied the game at 7-7 and Clay Yingling gave the Bison an one goal edge with 7:19 to go in the game.
  • The Barons took momentum after a turnover and scored with twenty seconds left in regulation. They used the momentum and scored with under thirty seconds to go in overtime to snag the game from the Bison.
