Men's Lacrosse: Record-Setting Performance Leads Bethany past La Roche

Bethany, W.Va. – The Bethany College men's lacrosse team had seven different scorers in Wednesday's 27-2 victory over the La Roche University Redhawks.  

THE BASICS

Final Score: Bethany 27, La Roche 2      

Records: Bethany (4-2, 0-0); La Roche (0-5)   

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bethany used a strong offensive game to overpower La Roche. The Bison scored 11 goals in the first period and added five goals in the second.
  • The Green and White led 16-1 at the half.
  • In the second period the Bison added 11 goals to maintain a commanding lead over the Redhawks.  

BISON TOP PERFORMERS

  • Clay Yingling tied Bethany's school record for the most points in a game with 13 points. He had a team-high seven goals and six assists. His assists performance is the most assists by a Bison since Jake Holland (2015).   
  • Dillon Davenport added his names to Bethany's record books, tying the school record for most groundballs in a game with 18. He went 21-for-28 on face-off attempts this evening.
  • Aarin Burton added six goals.
  • Jacob Ranttila contributed four goals and one assist. He scooped up four groundballs.
  • Joshua Allegra had four goals and two assists.
  • Tyler Britton added three goals and dished three assists.
  • Cameron Melita had two goals on three shots. He scooped up five groundballs and caused one turnover.
  • Rob Taylor scored his first goal of his career in tonight's win.
  • Defensively, Christian Funari caused four turnovers, with Clay Yingling, Tyler Britton and David Heldt causing three turnovers apiece.
  • Andrew Smith registered 15 saves.

STATS OF THE GAME

  • The Bison outshot the Redhawks 63-20.
  • Bethany went 23-for-31 on faceoff attempts.  
  • The Bison had a season high 66 groundballs.
  • Bethany's 27 goal performance are the most goals the Bison have scored in one game duing the Hilyer Era.
