Bison Lacrosse Upended by Transylvania

April 16 – LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Bethany College lacrosse program fell for just the second time in the last four games, dropping a 20-3, Ohio River Lacrosse Conference decision against Transylvania University on Saturday.

The host Pioneers jumped out to the early lead in the first quarter, tallying the first three goals of the game in the first six minutes. The Green & White responded with a goal from Lamont Sweeny (Columbia, Md./Reservoir) with seven minutes remaining in the frame to pull Bethany within 3-1. However, Transylvania would add another score before the end of the quarter, giving the hosts a 4-1 lead.

Bethany found themselves outscored 5-1 in the second quarter, with the goal coming from freshman Luke Gregor (Venetia, Pa./The Kiski School). Gregor found the back of the net at the 5:22 mark of the frame off an assist from junior Tyler Peck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler). With the four-goal difference, the Green & White trailed 9-2 at the half.

In the second half, the Pioneers tallied the first three goals of the frame, before Peck posted his first goal of the game. He finished the contest with two points, including the goal and an assist.

Transylvania would score the final eight goals of the game en route to the 20-3 decision, handing the Bison just their second loss in their last five games.

Defensively, Dominic Halstead led the Bison with three ground balls on the day, while Sweeny, Tim Pagano (Erie, Pa./Fort Leboeuf) and Jake Holland (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) added two, each. Junior Sean Rhodes (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area Senior) played all 60 minutes in net for the Bison, logging 22 saves.

The Bison will be back in action on Tuesday, April 19, when they host Thiel College for their home finale. The matchup with the Tomcats is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
