Bison Lacrosse Falls to Randolph

March 7 – LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Bethany College lacrosse team continued their five-game road trip to open the season, dropping a 21-3 decision to Randolph College on Monday afternoon at WildCat Stadium.

The Bison, who were playing in the fourth road contest in a row, fell behind the Wildcats early as the hosts got on the board with just 1:39 gone in the opening quarter. Randolph went on to outscore the Green & White 13-1 in the opening half.

Bethany picked up their first goal of the half with 6:06 remaining in the second quarter. Taking advantage of a man-up opportunity, Anthony Helias (Erie, Pa./McDowell ) found the back of the net off an assist from Jake Holland (Canton, Ohio/Jackson). The goal marked Helias' first of his career.

The third quarter advantage also tipped in favor of the hosts, as Randolph outscored the Bison 5-1 in the frame. Holland picked up his second point of the contest, notching an unassisted goal at the 6:48 mark of the frame.

The Wildcats would score the next five goals of the game, including three in the third quarter and two more in the fourth. The Green & White would respond with another goal as Luke Gregor (Venetia, Pa./The Kiski School) found the net off an assist from Brian Weakliem (Montgomery, N.J./Montgomery). The goal marked the first points in the careers of both Gregor and Weakliem.

Offensively, the Bison were led by Holland and Helias. Holland's two points gave him 99 for his career, as he looks to become the first 100-point scorer for the Bison, since the team's reboot in 2011. Helias added a goal on two shots, while Gregor and Weakliem added a point, each.

Defensively, goalie Sean Rhodes (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area Senior) posted 19 saves while Steve Pluas (Mt. Pocono, Pa./Keystone) led the team with three caused turnovers. Eshaka Conteh (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) posted a team-high five ground balls, while Bryan Uth and Helias combined to win 11 faceoffs in the circle.

The Green & White will complete their season-opening, five-game road trip with a matchup at Wilmington College on Saturday, March 12. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
