Women's Basketball Edge Yellow Jackets
Bethany, W.Va. – The Bethany College women's basketball hosted the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest Tuesday evening inside Hummel Field House. The Bison defeated the Yellow Jackets with a 60-51 victory. Freshman Makenzee Mason led with 16 points and Nikki Bradbury added 14 points.
GAME OVERVIEW
Both teams started off the game cold, shooting 5-for-26 from the field with the Yellow Jackets leading 7-6, after the first stanza. Makenzee Mason and Courtney Walker accounted for the Bison's six points, both hit shots from behind the arc.
In the second stanza, the Yellow Jackets held onto the small margin of momentum, taking a 11-8 lead in the opening minutes of the quarter. The Bison battle back after Mason hit another three to deadlock the game at 11-11. Minutes later, the Bison took the lead (16-14) after Bella Skobel fired in a three. The Bison took a seven point lead (27-20) after Nikki Bradbury hit back-to-back threes. The Green and White led 28-22 heading into the locker rooms for the break.
The Bison held momentum heading into the third quarter, building a 17 point lead, leading 47-32 heading into the final stanza. Bethany opened up the final quarter with a three from Molly Grayson. The final quarter quickly saw momentum shift to the Yellow Jackets. The visitors railed for a 19-4 run and cut the deficit to three (54-51) with 2:22 left in the game.
Bethany held composure and took advantage of the final minute of play. The Bison connected on six-straight foul shots, putting the victory in the Bison's favor.
