Strong Shooting Lifts Bethany Over Thiel

Bethany, W.Va. – The Bethany College women's basketball hosted the Thiel College Tomcats in a Presidents' Athletic Conference contest inside Hummel Field House Thursday evening. Bethany cruised to a 72-52 victory over Thiel. Freshman Makenzee Mason led with 16 points and five assists. Junior forward Kelsie Meintel had a team-high 15 rebounds and added 11 points.

GAME OVERVIEW

It was a battle in the opening quarter of play. Each team answered each other's buckets. The quarter saw six lead changes and four ties. Both teams shot well in the first stanza with Thiel shooting 52.9% (9 –for-17) and Bethany shooting 46.7% (7-for-15). The Tomcats took a late lead after a late hook shot, 21-20 to end the first.

The Bison continued their hot shooting into the second quarter of play and picked up the defense. Bethany outscored the Tomcats, 22-9 to take a 42-30 lead heading into the break. The defense held Thiel to just 30% (3-for-10) from the field. Bethany shot 53.3% (8-for-15) from the field and 57.1% (4-for-7) from three.

The second half Bethany continued to keep momentum but the offense slowed down with the Bison only outscoring the Tomcats 11-7. The Green and White held a 53-37 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

The Bison continued to hold onto a commanding lead and was led by in the final stanza freshmen-trio, Makenzee Mason, Bella Skobel, and Molly Grayson. Mason had seven of her 16 points in the fourth stanza. Kelsie Meintel was a force on the boards, pulling in a season-high 15 rebounds. Bethany shot a hot 46.4 percent (13-for-28) from behind the arc. The Green and White held Thiel to 36.4 percent (20-for-55) from the field. Bethany scored 17 points off of Thiel's 17 turnovers. The Bison also registered seven steals.
