WLAX: Wenger Ties Career High

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Bethany College women's lacrosse team fell to Spalding 12-10 Friday in non-conference action.

Spalding scored five straight goals on the heels of Bethany tying the score at seven early in the third quarter. By the time the scoring run was finished, Bethany trailed by five with 12:50 remaining in the fourth period.

The Bison were able to score three goals late in the fourth to pull to within two with a little less than two minutes remaining. However, Bethany only managed a shot as time expired.

The hosts took the early 2-0 lead, but sophomore Tatum Severe and junior Grace Schwieckert scored to knot the game at two. However, the Eagles scored four of the next five goals for a three-goal advantage.

Junior Emily Wenger scored twice and junior Janez Matthews scored as Bethany pulled even at the break.

Wenger tied a career-high with three goals, accomplished four times in her career, while Severe, Matthews, and senior Karley Trinidad all scored twice. Junior Jada Carter dished out the only two assists for the Bison.

Goalkeepers Leah Crihfield and Madison Wagoner finished with seven saves on 19 shots.

Bethany (1-5) returns to action 4 p.m. Wednesday at Wittenberg.
