Women's track & field participates at YSU Invite

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (Jan. 19) – The Bethany College women's track & field team competed in events at the Youngstown State University Invitational at the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS) Friday afternoon.

In the field, junior Leighanna Frantz (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) cleared 1.41 meters (four feet, 7.5 inches) in the high jump and placed 12th overall.

Freshman Riley Meyers (Dubois, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic) had a solid indoor season debut. She finished the 60-meter hurdles in 10.01 seconds, second among NCAA Division III competitors at the event. Senior Ashley Borsch (Edison, Ohio/Richmond) finished right behind Meyers in the 60 hurdles with a time of 10.15 seconds.

Also on the track for the Bison were senior Gabrielle Goudy and sophomore Amanda Gower, who competed in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes. Gower placed 62nd overall in the 200 with a time of 29.12 and finished 49th in the 400, clocking in at one minute, 6.24 seconds. Meanwhile, Goudy posted a 31.18 second time in the 200 and crossed the tape at one minute, 12.24 seconds in the 400 meters.

Junior Emily Duke (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville) was the lone distance runner competing and established a time of two minutes, 46.75 seconds in the 800-meter run.

The YSU Invite featured more than 1,200 competitors from 27 schools across all division of the NCAA and NAIA. In addition to Bethany and Youngstown State, schools competing included: Alderson Broaddus, Allegheny, Ashland, Charleston (W. Va.), Clarion, Duquesne, Edinboro, Geneva, Malone, Notre Dame (Ohio), Ohio, Ohio Dominican, Pitt-Johnstown, Pittsburgh, Point Park, Robert Morris, Seton Hill, Slippery Rock, Waynesburg, Walsh, West Liberty, West Virginia, West Virginia Wesleyan and Wheeling Jesuit.
