BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College volleyball team was selected as a recipient of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, based on the squad's outstanding grade point average during the 2021-22 academic year.

Under the leadership of Head Coach Courtney Hilyer, the Bison posted a 2021-22 team grade point average of 3.45. A total of 1,213 teams earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2021-22 season, including 212 Division III women's teams.

The Team Academic Award, which started following the 1992-93 academic year and is celebrating its 30th anniversary, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale.

The Bison placed second in the Presidents' Athletic Conference last season, finishing the season with an overall record of 17-11 (13-5 PAC). The team opens the 2022 campaign on Friday, September 2 with two matches at Cedar Point Sports Center in Sandusky, Ohio against Hanover and Western Connecticut State.
