Women's Volleyball: Bison Advance to PAC Title Match with Win Over Grove City
MEADVILLE, Pa. – The #6 Bethany College women's volleyball team is heading back to the Presidents' Athletic Conference championships for the second straight season after defeating the #2 Grove City College Wolverines, 3-2.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
- #6 Bethany 3, #2 Grove City 2 (25-22, 23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13)
- The Bison took an early 1-0 lead in a back and forth battle in set one.
- Grove City took momentum in the second and third sets to take a 2-1 lead.
- The Bison quickly fell behind in the third set, but battled to tie the set at 19-19. The Green and White and Wolverines went neck-and-neck in the final points with the Bison forcing a fifth set.
- Bethany kept all of the momentum heading into the final set, taking a 10-6 lead forcing a Grove City timeout. After the timeout, the Wolverines battled to knot the set at 10-10 and took the lead.
- The Bison regained composure after a timeout and took the lead back with a kill from Emma Marthins and three service aces from Asia Crim. The Wolverines battled to keep the set alive, but the Bison were able to capitalize on a Riley Felton kill.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Bison hit .152 with 61 kills.
- Both teams had seven aces apiece.
- Bethany had 18 blocks (4 solo).
INSIDE THE MATCH
- Destiny Goodnight led the Bison with 16 kills and four blocks.
- Emma Marthins and Hannah Rogers had 12 kills apiece.
- Alaina Torres had 54 assists which led to her eclipsing the 2,000+ mark in her career.
- Asia Crim led the Bison with 27 digs.
- Riley Felton added 11 kills and had six blocks (2 solo).
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Bison will travel to Greenville, Pa. to face #1 Thiel College Tomcats on Saturday, Nov. 5 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship for a 4:30 pm start.
