Women's Volleyball: Bethany Falls to No. 6 Emory in NCAA Tournament

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The #6 Bethany College women's volleyball team was dealt a 3-0 loss by No. 6 Emory Thursday evening in the NCAA Tournament first round at the Clive M. Beck Center.

THE MATCHUP

  • No. 6 Emory 3, Bethany 0 (25-21, 25-10, 25-14)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Bison took an early 8-3 lead over the Eagles. The Green and White continued to hold the lead until the 16-14 mark. The Bison and Eagles battled back and forth in the final points of the set. Emory began to gain momentum after taking a 20-19 lead and outscoring the Bison, 6-2 to close out the first set.
  • Emory maintained the momentum into the second set, taking a quick 7-2 lead over Bethany and eventually would hold the Bison to just 10 points in the second set.
  • In the third set, the Eagles held the early advantage. The Bison continued to fight but would fall to the Eagles, 25-14.

MATCH NOTES

  • Senior Alaina Torres played all three sets against the Eagles, tallied 19 assists and one ace. Torres finished her career with 2087 assists, which is slotted sixth best in program history. She wraps up her collegiate career with 118 service aces.
  • Senior Riley Felton finished her career with 605 kills and 247 total blocks (86 solo). She finished the match with three kills, two aces, and one block. Felton finished first on the team with 114 blocks, second on the team hitting .256 and third on the team in kills with 218.
  • Junior Emma Marthins finished her stellar season with four kills and two blocks. She finished tied for first with 114 blocks with teammate Felton. She led the Bison hitting .288 with 286 kills.
  • Asia Crim led the Bison with 11 digs. She finished the season with 509 digs and 4.42 per set. She wrapped up the season with 58 aces.
  • Hannah Rogers led the Bison with six kills.
